Bio

Jim Gera began studying Chen Style Taiji with Sifu Justin Meehan in 1997 and became assistant instructor for Sifu Justin in 2001.  He began private study with Master Zhang Xue Xin in 2001 and continues to travel to San Francisco several times a year to receive personal instruction.  Jim is one of only three students that Master Zhang has personally taught the Da Dao, broadsword form.  In 2004 he was certified to teach under the direction of Master Zhang and Sifu Justin.  During the summer of 2001, Jim accompanied Sifu Justin and his senior students to California to study with Master Feng Zhiqiang, learning the Hunyuan 38 pao chui form.  Jim has studied the Chen Taiji 18 form and silk reeling with Master Chen Zheng Lei.  He has also studied Hunyuan Qigong, 48 Hunyuan Taiji form, silk reeling, and push hands with Master Chen Xiang and external Qigong healing with Master Ken Cohen.

Jim has competed in several US tournaments placing first or second in each category. In 2001, he won gold in push hands and moving push hands at the Chin Woo National Tournament.  

 

Classes

  • Monday and Tuesday evenings 6 to 8 p.m.
  • Saturdays 9:30 to noon

Classes are held outside in Tower Grove park at the music pavilion near the Piper Palm House.

Classes are open to all levels. Call for details.
